Diet diversification programme, which government through the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting to ensure food security at both household and national levels, is well entrenched in some districts of Malawi.
In Chitipa, for instance, banana is one of the staple foods and is prepared in different ways to suit people’s tastes.
In the morning, some families are at home with boiled bananas and meat soup (no onions, tomatoes and spices are added except salt) and in the afternoon and evening, bananas either roasted or boiled with well-spiced meat are served.
